The Waikiki Aquarium

It was just one of those Saturdays I didn’t have anything to do. Rummaging through my bedroom full of junks and stacked high paperwork I uncovered a few admission passes to the Waikiki Aquarium. Better then waste a weather perfect Saturday watching Lifetime movies, I decided to call my sister and cousins for a mini tourist day, destination Waikiki Aquarium.
It has been quite a while since I had a visit to the Aquarium yet I’m still amazed every time I enter. The giant fish tanks bring up close encounters of Hawaiian sea creatures. Too bad fishing isn’t allowed there (I so wanted to hook the Ulua!)

One of the newer exhibits featured jelly fishes. If you watched “7 Pounds” starring Will Smith, you’d probably be the same as me. I stood in front of the tank a good 5 minutes. They’re quite fascinating --slimy, translucent and extremely graceful.

Outside of the Aquarium laid two male Hawaiian Monk seals sunbathing in the far end of their exhibits. Their names are Nuka 'au and Maka onaona. Hawaiian monk seals are a rare and endangered species found only in the Hawaiian Islands. Regardless of the extreme conservation efforts, there are less than 1300 seals remaining.

A few notes about the facility. Parking is available but limited in space and time (1 hour max).
